Chicken Like Birds

You may be asking yourself, well, what is a chicken-like bird anyway?   It all started when Jasmin was looking through her friends bird book with the intention of finding a band name for her new duo with Ari Lantela.  She found names like Northern Shoveler and Cinnamon Teal but nothing clicked until she saw it.  Miscellaneous Chicken-Like Birds, a genre of bird that includes the turkey, quail, ptarmigan, peacock, pheasant and grouse, also known as Galliformes, they are heavy bodied fowl and usually very tasty birds.  She wrote it down and showed Ari who decided, without a doubt, that was it.  They eventually dropped the Miscellaneous as that word was rather extraneous and so, Chicken-Like Birds hatched.

About Jasmin Lynn Fredrickson

JASMIN LYNN FREDERICKSON
Jas is a country girl at heart and she is like the prairie wind. Touching everything as she flows by, sometimes gracefully and sometimes clumsily, she'll always leave a lasting impression. She's in love with music and music is in her blood. Her grandma was a ragtime guitarist and singer and her pa will often break out the guitar and sing old folk songs after dinner. With a voice that can be soft and sweet as well as bold and full of attitude, Jas gets excited on stage and will often be seen stomping, dancing and maybe even head banging during a live show. Just a "heads" up- head banging can result in the dreaded bang-over. Jasmin has also been known to tell lame dad jokes, to which responses usually yield varying degrees of groaning.

About Ari Lantela

ARI LANTELA
A self proclaimed sloppy blues guitarist, Ari is not always the most subtle player. He often uses the technique of mashing (a technical term) where you hit the top string as hard as you can with your thumb. One of his favourite recent live moments was when he mashed slightly too hard causing the string to detune two full notes down. This resulted in a bit of confusion followed by laughter- it's these little moments that Ari loves, the unknown unknowns of the live show. Some of Ari's main influences are Mississippi John Hurt, Blind Blake and Skip James, and having recently made his pilgrimage to the Mississippi Delta, he's immersed himself in the country blues and ragtime more so than ever.
